Eric Davis: Adolphus Bell 2012 acrylic/glitter on wood 7 x 5 inchesI am a self-taught artist. I began as a photographer, but grew frustrated over not being able to get on paper how I saw things in my head. I then turned to drawing which allowed me to really get things out of my head and onto paper. I began by making figurative work, but didn’t feel I could do anything except blocks of color. Oddly, I was somewhat successful and sold work for up to $1500 a piece, but I felt really phony about it; that I was trying to be someone I am not. I hated the talk and trying to walk the walk. So I went back to what I did in the beginning and have been very happy with it and also have been successful with it; well, at least successful to me. I mostly make work that I think is funny and to entertain myself.
